How to answer
The Global Compact Self Assessment Tool consists of questions covering the four UN Global Compact areas - Human Rights, Labour, Environment and Anti-corruption. Each of these areas are divided into sub-topics. You can browse the sub-topics by placing your mouse over the UN Global Compact areas in the menu bar. By clicking on a sub-topic you will get a list of the self-assessment questions for that sub-topic.

Where can I find out more about the questions?
Click on “About this question” for more information about the question. Some questions are primarily relevant for certain types of companies. “About this question” will help you to find out if it’s relevant for your business.
How do I answer the questions?
Click on “Answer this question” and you will see a list of indicators.
- Step 1: answer each of the indicators
- Step 2: based on your answers to the indicators, decide on your answer to the main question.
What do the answer categories mean?
For each question and indicator you are presented with the following answer options:
- Yes/No: to be used when you agree or disagree. The more indicators and questions you are able to answer in this way, the more reliable your assessment will be.
- F/A (Further attention required): you can use this option when you’re uncertain about what the correct answer is, or because the company is in the process of addressing the issue.
- N/A (Not applicable): use this option if a particular question or indicator isn't relevant for your business.
How do the indicators relate to the main question?
The indicators show you which policies, procedures and practices you should ideally have in place in order to answer “yes” to the main question. It’s important that you answer all the indicators before attempting to answer the main question.
Depending on the nature of your business not all indicators are equally important. The more indicators you can answer with a "yes", the more likely it is that you can answer “yes” to the main question. If you answer “no” or "further attention" to one or more indicators, and still answer “yes” to the main question, it is a good idea to write a note explaining why the indicators were not considered relevant for your business.
What if we have a red or yellow answer?
When you answer “no” to a given question it means that you have identified a gap in your policies, procedures or practices. Make a note of the indicator(s) that resulted in this gap, and add them to a prioritised list of improvement actions. If you answered “Further attention” to a given question, make a note of what action you need to take before the question can be answered with a “yes”.
If we can answer “yes” to all questions does it mean we comply with the UN Global Compact?
UN Global Compact is not a compliance framework, but a universal set of principles. Global Compact Self Assessment Tool helps you set your own targets in relation to the UN Global Compact principles.
